Former Spanish Colonies in Africa

At one time Spain had three overseas territories in Africa: Spanish Sahara, Spanish Morocco, and Spanish Guinea. Today those territories are the independent countries of Western Sahara and Equatorial Guinea.

Equatorial Guinea (formerly Spanish Guinea)
The region of Africa formerly known as Spanish Guinea included the Fernando Po, Rio Muni, and Annobon . That region is now the independent country of Equatorial Guinea.

Western Sahara (formerly Spanish Morocco and Spanish Sahara)
The region of Africa formerly known as Spanish Sahara included Rio de Oro and Saguia el-Hamra. The region of Africa formerly known as Spanish Morocco included the Tarfaya Strip and Ifni. All of those regions are now part of the partially recognized independent country of Western Sahara.
