Kalacha Camp Lodge
Romote lodge located on the edge of an oasis,
in the Chalbi Desert of Northern Kenya,
near the Kenya-Ethiopia border.
Accommodations are in four bandas with
tall thatched roofs, small private verandahs,
twin beds, and private bathrooms with
flush toilets, and cold showers.
There is a small swimming pool on the
property and the camp is a good base for
cultural visits, rock art expeditions,
and fishing on Lake Turkana (also known
as the Jade Sea).
Kalacha Camp was established to provide a source
of income for the Gabbra people. It is managed by
Tropic Air and it has been funded by
the European Union, Farm Africa, and the Estate of
the late John Sutton, who used this area as a base
for his bird shooting safaris.
